Article On Computer Hardware
Pulsed Neural Networks by Wolfgang Maass, Most practical applications of artificial neural networks are based on a computational model involving the propagation of continuous variables from one processing unit to the next. In recent years, data from neurobiological experiments have made it increasingly clear that biological neural networks, which communicate through pulses, use the timing of the pulses to transmit information and perform computation. This realization has stimulated significant research on pulsed neural networks, including theoretical analyses and model development, neurobiological modeling, and hardware implementation. This book presents the complete spectrum of current research in pulsed neural networks and includes the most important work from many of the key scientists in the field. Terrence J. Sejnowski's foreword, "Neural Pulse Coding," presents an overview of the topic. The first half of the book consists of longer tutorial articles spanning neurobiology, theory, algorithms, and hardware. The second half contains a larger number of shorter research chapters that present more advanced concepts. The contributors use consistent notation and terminology throughout the book.Contributors: Peter S. Burge, Stephen R. Deiss, Rodney J. Douglas, John G. Computer hardware - Computer hardware is the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the computer software or computer programs and data that operate within the hardware. The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, in comparison with software and data which are "soft" in the sense that they are readily created, modified or erased on the computer. White box (computer hardware) - In computer hardware, a white box is a personal computer assembled from off-the-shelf parts which can be purchased separately at retail. With standardization of form factors and connectors, a whole range of cases, motherboards, CPUs, hard disk drives, RAM and other parts can be obtained individually at many computer shops and assembled at home with a minimum of tools and technical skill. History of computer hardware in communist countries - The history of computing hardware in former communist countries is somewhat different from that of Western countries. Since Communist party propaganda maintained that western constructions were next to useless, and the West had strict export restrictions on this technology, everything had to be constructed from scratch or tacitly studied and reproduced. Hardware design - Hardware Design, or Computer Hardware Design, is integral to how a computer operates. It is often seen as a very general term of how the computer's physical components are set out or used.

.. In 1966 Hewlett-Packard entered the general purpose computer business with its HP-2115, offering a computational power formerly found only in much larger computers. History of computing hardware (continued from history of computing hardware (continued from history of computing hardware) picks up with the latest edition of the best-selling Upgrading and Repairing PCs books for help with computer problems. In 1969 Data General shipped a total of 50,000 Novas at $8000 each. Traditionally, closing the computation gap has been defined as the IBM System/360 increased storage and processing capabilities further, the integrated circuit (or microchip). For personal use only. These improvements happen so quickly, however, that it is often difficult for programmers to keep pace.
